Learning opportunities begin at a very early age God seeks and accepts worship from young and old alike. Children have a meaningful place in worship as members of a covenant community. The children spend the first 15 minutes of each service worshiping with their families and their Calvin family. Children participate in the service by listening, singing, through drama presentations and by participating in Holy Communion throughout the year. After the weekly children’s story, children are invited to attend church school where dedicated teachers help lead them to Christ by laying biblical foundations for Christian growth and development. The church service starts at 10:30am, church school at 10:45—11:30am. For more detailed information about our Church School program, check out the Children's Education page. Live Wires is a group that meets for lessons, activities and fun. It is a group for middle-school aged youth. Impact The youth of Calvin Presbyterian Church are beginning the new year with a new name. The youth group, which is for students in high school, as well as young adults of college and university age, has adopted the name "Impact." We meet about once a month and welcome new members at any time. Meetings are usually announced by email. If you know anyone who would like to be added to this email distribution list, please email the church secretary. PYPS (Presbyterian Young People's Society) There are special events three times a year, when we travel to other churches in our synod (Central and Northern Ontario) to meet with the Presbyterian Young People's Society (PYPS), a large group of dedicated and enthusiastic young people aged 14 to 25. The events are "Winter Weekend" in February, "Spring Fellowship" in May, and "Fall Convention" in September or early October, plus "Leadership Weekend" in November. Each lasts from a Friday night until Sunday afternoon and features guest speakers, fun activities, social action initiatives, discussion groups, and a special dance, coffee house or outing. Participants are billeted with members of the host church or accommodated in cabins at our synod camp. More information can be found on the PYPS website: http://www.cnobpyps.com/ The youth worship band, which provides praise and worship music for services at Calvin several times per year, has also adopted a new name. The band now calls itself "CrossWalk" to signify our commitment to walk with Jesus, who went to the cross for us. We also like the street vibe the name evokes. We play contemporary worship music, using guitars, bass guitar, keyboard and drums. Sometimes we add a bit of flute. If you have always dreamed of playing in a rock band, here's your chance. Instrumentalists and vocalists are always welcome. CrossWalk is currently in need of a technical support person (or two). The person would receive training to operate the sound mixer and/or video equipment (advancing the slides on the screen using a laptop) while the band plays/sings. Typically, we practice once a month on a Friday night and play at the church service the following Sunday morning. These dates can be found on the church calendar. |
