Food Bank: The first Sunday of every month Calvin's congregation collects items for the North Bay Food Bank. The wonderful people at U-Need-A-Cab pick up the food and deliver to the food bank at no charge. Lettuce Reach Out: The first full week of every month Calvin purchases, donates and drops off heads of lettuce to the Gathering Place. Each month dedicated volunteers make time to sign up for one (or more) days. Milk Bag Mats: Some of Calvin's members volunteer making milk bag mats for people in African countries. Bring in your (outer shell) bags from your tri-packs of milk. The bin can be found in the stairwell past the bathrooms on the main floor. Used Stamps: Thousands of used postage stamps saved by the Calvin family are given to the Canadian Bible Society to help purchase Bibles. One pound of used stamps buys one Bible. Please leave at least a ¼ inch border around each stamp. The box can be found in the foyer near the sanctuary doors on the main floor. Aluminum (pop) Cans: Many Calvin members and visitors to the church bring in their empty aluminum cans. The cans are picked up by volunteers from Habitat for Humanity to support their effots. The box can be found in the stairwell past the bathrooms on the main floor. Used Eyeglasses: We collect eyeglasses for people in need in African countries. The box can be found in the foyer near the sanctuary doors on the main floor. The Gathering Place: Each month we have a group of volunteers who give their time to serve and help out at the Gathering Place. This volunteer effort happens on the 4th Thursday of every month, meeting at the Gathering Place at 9:00am. Calvin Work Camp: Every summer since 1997 members from Calvin Church have volunteered their time to participate in the Calvin Work Camp. During that time we have painted inside and out, built/repaired over 20 wheelchair ramps and taken on minor home renovation projects. Assisted by staff from One Kid’s Place, Community Care Access Centre and NADY, we identify projects for those in need. Operation Christmas Child: Each year Calvin participates in Operation Christmas Child by filling shoe boxes of goodies for the program. On average Calvin congregation and community fill 125-150 boxes! |
