The Kirk Session is comprised of 19 members of Calvin who are elected for a six year term of service and ordained. Session is the ruling body of the church. Session meets on average 15 times per year to discuss issues pertaining to the spiritual health of the church. Moderator Calvin's Minister, The Rev. David Clark Benevolent Fund The Session Benevolent fund is administered by the Minister and Kirk Session of Calvin Church. The main purpose of the fund is to provide emergency assistance to members of our church community and North Bay community who seek direct assistance from the minister. The Benevolent Fund receives income from the Retiring Offering (donated as the congregation exits from the sanctuary at the conclusion of Communion Services), and other donations through the regular church envelopes. Christian Education The Christian Education Committee is responsible to Session for all aspects of Christian education at Calvin. This includes church school, youth confirmation classes, the provision of Christian education materials, the summer Sunday program for children, bible study, adult programming (studies, book discussions, adult membership programs) and the Church Library. Congregational Life The Congregational Life Committee meets an average of six times during the year and arranges various social activities for the enjoyment of the Calvin Church family. Some of the events include: Friendship Sunday Breakfast, family sleigh rides, progressive dinners, Seniors’ Luncheons, Calvin’s Anniversary Sunday, Christmas Luncheon and more. Outreach Outreach has approximately 10 members and supports more than 10 local organizations. Support to organizations is provided both monetarily and through volunteer efforts to help ensure that the needs of North Bay ’s less fortunate are met. As followers of Christ the committee endeavours to be a reflection of God’s message to a world in need of Christ’s caring. Our directions come from the word of Matthew 25: 35-36 and Mathew 25: 40. Personnel The Personnel Committee is a resource committee for Session, the Board of Managers, the congregation and church staff members. The Committee assists with the recruitment and employment of personnel in order to meet the needs of Calvin’s ministries. Semi-annual interviews and meetings are held with individual staff members to review and discuss issues and concerns. Roll Clerk The Roll Clerk keeps an accurate record in the Communion Register of all members and records members received by transfer, profession of faith or resolution of Session. Church statistics ie: Bapisms, Deaths, Weddings are kept and reported to Session on a regular basis. Worship & Music The Music and Worship Committee meets monthly to discuss any items which involve music and worship in our church. This committee is responsible to the session at Calvin. The committee is comprised of several members, including the minister and choir director. The tasks of this group are to co-ordinate worship and music, prepare the church calendar, prepare communion, and co-ordinate ushers, lectors, Cassellholme Services, decorate the sanctuary, and maintain audio responsibilities in the church. The Board of Managers meets on the third Wednesday of every month (except July & August) to discuss and resolve financial matters of Calvin, including the maintenance of the Church facility and the purchase of office equipment.
